How to find a Rust player on BattleMetrics

Where to look for a player on BattleMetrics, why it does not search by SteamID, and how to spot the right person among a hundred namesakes.

What BattleMetrics is

BattleMetrics is a site that monitors game servers. A Rust server connected to it reports who joined, under which name and when they left. Those records add up to a player profile: which servers they played on, how long on each, and when they first and last joined. Rust players call it simply BM.

Three ways to find a player

  1. By name

    The search at battlemetrics.com/players works by name and is open to everyone. But names in Rust are not unique: “Tony” returns hundreds of players. You have to recognise the right one by their servers and dates.

  2. By SteamID

    Not everyone has this option. BattleMetrics searches by SteamID only for admins with RCON access to a server the player has played on. Regular visitors do not see the SteamID on a BattleMetrics profile, so there is nothing to compare it with.

  3. Through RustRecon

    Paste a Steam profile link, a SteamID64 or a name. The report finds the player on BattleMetrics and matches past Steam names against server names, so a namesake is not mistaken for the real one. Servers, hours and names appear right in the report.

How not to mix up namesakes

Look at matches, not at the name. If a BattleMetrics candidate has the same past names as the Steam profile, that is them. If they play on the servers where you met them, that is a good sign too. A single matching name means nothing.
